    Saturday, 18 August, 2018 - 14:00 to Sunday, 19 August, 2018 - 14:00

Aikido Kenkyukai NEWCASTLE invites you to:

ROOTS OF AIKIDO 2018 STUDY GROUP

WHAT? A structured, collaborative, process-oriented workshop bringing practitioners together to study the ancient origins of aikido.

HOW? Use lectures, demonstration and shared practice with experienced leaders to examine terms used for the accepted principles of aikido in the context of its Chinese and Japanese heritage.

The art of aikido is a synthesis of ancient martial arts knowledge and experience derived from India, China and Japan. This workshop is an opportunity to receive input from teachers with roots in Chinese and Japanese martial arts to help us examine the language we use to communicate why we do what we do in our practice. It is also a forum for each of us to demonstrate, share and obtain feedback on how we synthesise, embody and communicate, in mind, body and spirit, the knowledge and experience we pass on in daily practice.

    Instructors:

Damon Bramich: 6th Generation Disciple, Yang Family (China); 6th Dan Chinese Wushu (China)

Stephen Seymour: 6th Dan, Chief Instructor, Aikido Kenkyukai Australia

The Canberra Dojos are pleased to announce the return of Masao Ishii Sensei, 7th dan, to lead a gasshuku at the Cook Dojo in July 2017.

Ishii sensei shares a common tradition with our AKI teachers, having been a long time student of Yamaguchi sensei before his passing. Ishii sensei was last in Canberra in 1999, where he taught for several months. We fondly recall his clear descriptions, practical and concise technique, and generous nature.

Ishii sensei was nominated for his 7th dan by Takeda shihan.

  • Seaforth NSW
    Saturday, 16 July, 2016 - 09:00 to Sunday, 17 July, 2016 - 13:00

You are invited to join the Kamakura Gym 20th anniversary gasshuku to be held in Sydney on July 16/17th.

Eleven Dan grades (7th to 2nd) will be coming from Japan and will be the largest group of high Dan grades AKI Aust has seen from Japan since K Day in the 90's. We doubt we will see an event this size again.

Seino sensei will be conducting the training and all the others will be training partners for us all.

Kamakura Gym is what Sasame Dojo morphed into after its closure. Sasame dojo was the 1st dojo in Shonan Aikido Renmei, now AKI ! The members of the Gym have tried to faithfully follow Takeda Sensei, and Yamaguchi Sensei's waza from the 80s and early 90s.

Due to space restrictions we will have to limit numbers so register early.
