3rd Dan

I began my martial arts journey back in 1980 with Judo at the YMCA in Canberra. Over the years, I explored other disciplines including Tai Chi, Iaido, and Jujitsu, but in 1998 I found Aikido—and it completely changed the way I viewed martial arts. What drew me in was the philosophy of blending with an opponent’s attack rather than meeting force with force. That idea fascinated me then, and it still does today.
I’ve been practicing Aikido for over 26 years and currently hold the rank of San Dan (3rd Dan). For more than 20 years, I’ve had the privilege of instructing with Aikido Kenkyukai ACT, helping students discover the joy and depth of this art. I’m also training in Iaido, which complements my Aikido practice and keeps me connected to the broader martial arts tradition.
I’m continually inspired by how our group has evolved over time. Lately, I’ve been deeply interested in the concept of kuzushi—breaking balance—and how we can control an attacker at the moment of contact. For me, Aikido is not just about technique; it’s about mindfulness, fluidity, and creating a space where everyone can learn and grow together.
My vision is simple: to share the joy of Aikido and help people discover their inner strength and potential. My mission is to provide engaging, supportive sessions that inspire confidence and foster a strong sense of community.
