Laurie Nash
5th Dan
Laurie Nash Sensei started training in Aikido in 1990 at Oakes Estate in Canberra under the instruction of Mike MacGregor sensei and gained his shodan in 1995. At this time the style was Shonan Renmei Aikido under Yoshinobu Takeda Shihan. In 2001 Takeda Shihan started Aikido Kenkyukai International as part of the Aikikai Foundation.
Laurie has trained in Australia under a variety of Australian, Japanese and American instructors and has trained in Japan on 4 occasions. His last visit in 2015 was to receive his 5th Dan grading.
Laurie was a school teacher for nearly 40 years and he has taught childrens aikido classes since 1994 and adult aikido classes since 1996 at venues including Meidokan Dojo – Queanbeyan, Griffin Centre – Civic, Australian Institute of Sport – Bruce and currently Cook Community Centre – Cook.
Laurie's current focus is on the link between weapons and open handed training, being supple and economical in movement, and the relationship between training partners.
